Quality of Food is degrading day by day due to unavailability of land,
resources and ever-increasing pollution. So, the modern-day practice came into
picture and one of them commonly known as Hydroponics. It is a subset of hydro culture.
Hydroponics: The Future of Agriculture
Hydroponics, as the name suggests, is the process of cultivation in sand, gravel, or liquid, with added nutrients but in soil-less media. This emphasis and enhances the sign of hope for the food industry where the food materials can be produced in a non-agricultural land as well as in urban areas and even inside a vicinity or an industrial building. This system works in such a manner that here the water is mixed with minerals and nutrients and is directly exposed to the roots of the plant.
As the population is increasing and we are left with much less land to cultivate and meet the needs of around 7.6 Billion people, what comes as a ray of hope that will serve the entire mankind with nutritional benefits and added minerals is Hydroponics. In this, we can grow food anywhere without any dependence on agriculture land.
By using this modern technology one can grow vegetables and fruits on almost any surface and at all places be it your terrace, a fully air-conditioned building, a factory or name any place. Here the Vitamins and Nutrients are additionally added in raw or in their natural form and by this the plant directly take the nutrients required for its development. This way it grows faster than normal farming. Also inside a building, we can artificially use Lights to act as an alternative to Sunlight.
Hydroponics: The Future of Agriculture
This practice is being used in various parts of the world and now people have started taking this as a profession in many countries including India, China, US, Gulf etc..
So this unique new approach is loved by the entrepreneurs and as we need better foods or rather smart food (because that's how we call each and everything, sounds trendy !??) so each one is keeping an eye on this new agriculture approach.
The initial setup cost is high but can easily be covered roughly the cost for setting up in Polyhouse starts from approx. ₹600 per square feet. and if one wishes to set up the Indoor farm where artificial lighting, water, area etc is used then the cost usually starts from approx ₹4000 per square feet. As no agriculture land or soil is required to produce vegetables, fruits that means the quality of food will be of high grade as it will totally depend upon the kind of external extracts of vitamins, proteins etc. So if the quality of produce is of high grade then the margin will also be high as the customer will shell out money to get good quality products. So a lot of companies are focusing on setting up new farms and using new techniques like hydroponics, aquaponics etc to serve the population of the world and trying to reduce the dependency on the high-grade soil for production of food.
All in all this hydroponics and other upcoming techniques of agriculture are actually a win-win for both the producers and the customers.
